The Six Bells Folk & Blues Club started in the early 1990's and has been running fortnightly ever since. Unlike most folk clubs the emphasis is on having a relaxed and enjoyable time of which the music is just one part. It is the informality of the club which attracts some performers and is a little challenging for others.

We seldom book an "act" but rely instead upon local performers and those who are simply passing through.
If you come to play you will usually be asked for three songs or tunes. Let whoever is running the evening know you want to play when you arrive. We welcome just about any sort of entertainment and we are not concerned about how good you are, give it your best shot - don't be shy.
The starting time is 8:30pm but, in keeping with the pioneering Six Bells laid back approach to folk club management, don't be too surprised if nothing happens until nine. When it gets going it is usually worth the wait.
Picasso once offered to pay for a beer at the 6 Bells with a drawing but was told to use cash like everyone else.
A regular at the 6 Bells was hanged for killing her husband with a onion pie.
