Performance tips for new players

Six Bells Folk & Blues Club Chiddingly 2002 Programme From time to time we have a guest artist, when we don't we will try to feature one of the regular floor singers (who form the backbone of the club) with a half-hour slot in which to shine. More singers are always welcome. 1st January - The 6 Bells closes for the evening of New Years Day - there will be no Folk Club on this evening. 15th January - An evening with regular artists Dave Green and Dave Dyke - players and singers welcome 29th January - Guest Artists Mississippi Moonshine players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 12th February - Featured Artists Victoria Jane Hewerdine with the Jim Best Band. They call themselves a punk band but they are all too polite to spit and have very limited body piercing (that we are aware of) - whatever will they do - find out tonight. Players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 26th February - Guest Artists Black Strap Molasses - The Eastbourne Folk Club's home grown band - Players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 12th March - Guest Artists Grassroots. Terry and the lads (+ Gina on fiddle) have agreed to do an extended spot for us tonight, a mixture of Bluegrass, country and old timey tunes - Players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 26th March - Featured Artists Andy Gillies & John Deverill. Andy and John have become regular supporters of the club and we welcome this opportunity to give them an extended spot. Now it's time to give them your support. Players and singers welcome. 9th April - Singers Night - All players and singers welcome. This night is dedicated to you - go for it. 23rd April - Beatles theme night - hosted by special Guest Presenter Steve Royston - come and play your favorite songs by the Beatles or any members of the "Fab Four" in their later careers. 7th May - Guest Artists J.C.B. with Betty Davila - Betty and her band were the guests of the Festival Folk Club Evening last year and many club goers have asked if we could have her back - Betty sings everything from Nanci Griffith to the Eagles - not to be missed - players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 21st May - Featured Artists - Big Sun - A Country Rock, Folk & Blues Duo from Pevensey Bay. Jerri & Tony have played at the Six Bells from time to time in the past and we are very pleased to feature them this evening. Players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 4th June - GOLDEN JUBILEE SPECIAL - Guest Artist Gilly Darbey Gilly is billed as Britain's Eva Cassidy so you will hear everything from Traditional Folk to Smokey Blues. We had to blow our budget to book Gilly so don't miss her. - Players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 18th June - Featured Artists The Conspiritors - Tom, Anthony, Will and Corin (perhaps also Lizzy, we can but hope). As always players and singers welcome. 2nd July - Featured Artist Ryan Mawer - Action Man himself - At the Six Bells we sometimes seem to take Ryan's brilliant guitar work and original songs for granted - please make a special effort to support him tonight - players and singers welcome 16th July - Guest Artists The Hofners - A Superb mix of music from the 20's right up to date, blues folk and humour - ideal for a dissolute 6 Bells audience. Players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 30th July - Featured Artist Loft Longhurst & Friends - If you like Paxton, Dylan & Skiffle you will love an evening with Loft. Loft is a regular at the Six Bells but this is the first time he has done a featured spot - please make a special effort to support him tonight - players and singers welcome Closed for August (but with an extra night in September to make up for it) 10th September - Featured Artist Simon Watt - Where else but the Six Bells can you see a performer of this calibre play for nothing - by rights you should be paying at least twice that. Players and singers welcome 17th September - Extra Night - Starring JC & Angelina as usual players and singers welcome. 24th September - CHIDDINGLY FESTIVAL IRISH THEME FOLK NIGHT - Starring Brian Houston (all the way from Ireland) supported by The Amazing Pilots. We will have Folk in the top bar again this year - We need YOU to play some Irish tunes or at least join in with the choruses. 8th October - SPECIAL END OF SUMMER HATS & SUNGLASSES NIGHT, let us hastily re-assure you that you can wear other things too but you MUST WEAR A HAT AND SUNGLASSES players and singers welcome (it would be a dull night without you!). 22nd October - Guest Artist "Hratch", a singer songwriter back by very popular demand - players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 5th November - Featured Artist - Les Elvin, Les has played the Six Bells before as part of the Betty Davila Band, (Guitar and Harmonica), he tells me he also plays with Ron Truman Border. So here is a chance for us to see what he can do as a solo artist. - players and singers welcome but if you want to perform - arrive early. 19th November - Dylan theme night - come and play your favorite Dylan songs to celebrate the fact that the great Bob is now 61.
